The 2015 ADAC Eifel Rallye Festival (23. - 25. July 2015) was a great success and a party for many generations. From toddlers to grandfathers, the Rally Mile in Daun and the demonstration stages were buzzing with spectators.



The list of eminent participants for the Eifel Rallye Festival in July has increased yet again. The World Rally Champions from 1984 and 1985, Stig Blomqvist and Timo Salonen will be joining previous holders of that title, Walter Röhrl (1980 and 1982) and Hannu Mikkola (1983) to demonstrate classic rally cars during the three-day Festival.



The German soccer club FC Carl Zeiss Jena hit the headlines internationally these days albeit playing in the fourth division only. The reason was neither sportive successes nor failures, but a new shirt sponsor: The metal band “Heaven Shall Burn” now actively supports the groggy club.



Media accreditation opened

The medias accreditation of the Eifel rally Festival is opened. The accreditation is possible only via the online form. Deadline for accreditation is the 17.07.2015.



It was announced this week that the legendary Sandro Munari, four times winner of the Monte Carlo Rally for Lancia in the 1970s, will be one of the featured stars appearing at the Eifel Rallye Festival this July.



The organisers of the Eifel Rallye Festival are happy to announce their first star drivers for the 2015 event. These are Hannu Mikkola and his co-driver for so many years, Arne Hertz. This Finnish/Swedish pairing first shared a rally car in 1976 and together they were successful for over thirteen years in the World Rally Championship.

For the first time ever, the Eifel Rallye Festival DVD is available directly from international Amazon shops. The review on the 2014 edition can be purchased in France, Italy, Spain and the UK. Although the prices are slightly higher than in Germany (due to the postage to these countries), this is the cheapest way to get the DVD for all rally fans living in these four countries.

Featuring almost one hundred different types of cars, the 2014 Eifel Rallye Festival set a new record in terms of variety. This exercise in time travel on four wheels began with the Volvo Amazon and Mini Cooper and ended with the first World Rally Cars from Ford, Subaru and Toyota. This DVD shows classic rally cars from five decades in action on the stages and, for the first time, also includes compelling aerial shots showing the atmosphere of the Vulkaneifel region during the Festival.



The Eifel Rallye Festival is one of the finalists of the “International Historic Motoring Awards” in the category “Motorsport Event of the Year”. The Festival was nominated for this prestigious award by the readers of the German edition of the magazine “Octane”. In the finals, it will compete against the greatest historic motor sports events from all over the world including the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique, the Le Mans Classic and last year’s winner, Silverstone Classic. The winner will be announced during the awards gala in London on November 20.



The organizers of the Eifel Rallye Festival are pleased to announce that the Eifel Rallye Festival in 2015 will be continued.



I knew Björn from his first RAC Rally appearance in 1965 until his last appearance on a competitive event - the Safari Classic of 2013. I was reporting rallies during his early successes, particularly the Monte Carlo victories of 1969 and 1970. I never co-drove with him in the proper sense but I did sit beside him on half a dozen 'Slowly Sideways' events in Porsche 911s and Toyota Celica Turbos. A nicer man you could not have wished to meet for whom I think no one could possibly have a bad word. Technically competent concerning the car and a brilliant natural driver behind the wheel, he will be universally mourned.



On Friday the 29th of August, the rally world became a lot poorer and lost one of its greatest when Björn Waldegard died from a short illness with cancer. As always, he had wanted to come to this year’s Eifel Rallye Festival but called the weekend before to excuse himself as he had serious pain in his back and needed medical treatment in hospital. He had never before experienced pain in his back, which he was happy about considering the decades of driving rally cars on bumpy roads, but now he definitely had to do something about it. Unfortunately it was not his back that was the problem…..
