Ein Opel Monza im Rallyesport und das auch noch als Werkswagen, auch das gab es. Austin MacHale fuhr die Saison 1987 für das Dealer Opel Team Irland und wurde in diesem Jahr zweiter in der irischen Asphaltmeisterschaft. Beim Circuit of Ireland wurde er fünfter, bei der Manx Rallye schied er mit Motorschaden aus, beide male im Opel Monza. Bei den anderen Läufen fuhr er einen Manta 400. Der Monza hatte einen 3-Liter Reihenmotor.

Yesterday: Austin MacHale/Christy Farrell, Manx Rally 1987
An Opel Monza in rallying and that too as a works car, yes it did exist. Austin MacHale drove the 1987 season for Dealer Opel Team Ireland and finished second in the Irish Tarmac Championship that year. He drove the Opel Monza in both the Circuit of Ireland to fifth place and retired on the Manx Rally with a broken head gasket. On the other rounds he drove a Manta 400. The Monza had a 3-litre inline engine.

Austin MacHale a piloté durant la saison 1987 pour le Dealer Opel Team Ireland et a terminé deuxième du championnat irlandais sur asphalte cette année-là. Il a amené l'Opel Monza jusqu'à la cinquième place sur le circuit d'Irlande, et a abandonné au Manx Rally à cause d'un joint de culasse. Lors des autres rallyes, il pilotait une Manta 400. La Monza avait un moteur de 3 litres.
