Press release 02

ADAC Eifel Rallye Festival 2022 – At least there is plenty to celebrate

  • The tenth running of the Eifel Rallye Festival is due to be held from July 21st/23rd, 2022
  • Already a video clip is online in preparation for fifty years of the World Rally Championship
  • And €50,000 donations made for the flood victims of last summer

When the Volcanic Eifel once again echoes to the sound of classic rally cars on the weekend of July 21st/23rd, everything will revolve around the history of rallying as the tenth edition of the ADAC Eifel Rallye Festival moves into action around Daun in the Vulkaneifel. The largest rolling rally museum will present the best of fifty years of the World Rally Championship. The official WRC celebrations will take place in May during the WRC round in Portugal where the Eifel Rallye Festival will be represented by a delegation of selected cars from the Slowly Sideways circle, which will thrill the fans with their demonstration drives on the WRC stages. Subsequent to that, the 'full programme' of WRC history will be on offer in the Vulkaneifel in July. "Together with our field of participants and the fans, we will bring the history and stories of fifty years of the World Rally Championship back to life," promises Reinhard Klein, who as the man in charge of Slowly Sideways, is responsible for putting together the starting lists for both dates.

As an appetiser and to get in the mood for both anniversaries at the Eifel Rallye Festival, the Zeroundersteer team has put together a video trailer that is really worth watching. The moving pictures come largely from the previous editions of the Festival and are complemented by historical motifs by cult filmmaker Helmut Deimel. And €50,000 donations for the flood victims by the Festival
After the devastating flood disaster in the Eifel, almost at once an incredible €40,000 were collected following the Festival organisers' appeal for donations. This support came from Festival friends around the globe and was handed over to the 'Bürgerstiftung Landkreis Vulkaneifel' in Daun for immediate aid. In the meantime, another €10,000 in donations have been received. "We are boosting these funds even more using the manpower of the board and members of the MSC Daun," explains Festival manager and club chairman, Otmar Anschütz. "Now that the flooded cellars and houses are dry again and can thus be plastered or wallpapered, we will support this further renovation work with the cash donations plus our labour."

Reinforcement in the organisation team
The organisation team of the Eifel Rallye Festival received reinforcement in December when Ernst Kopp decided to dedicate his spare time, gained through retirement, to the Festival. He knows the worldwide motorsport scene, and in particular the detail of the rally sector. His assignment to leading positions led him to the World Rally Championship at Toyota, and then with that team to Formula One and Le Mans. Most recently, from the very beginning of the Hyundai WRC team he has been in charge of their workshop in Alzenau. Ernst has been associated with the Eifel Rallye Festival for a long time. Since 2007, he has been a regular guest driving the Toyota Celica Twincam Turbo, Björn Waldegard's original Group B winner from the 1986 Rally Ivory Coast. In 2017, he thrilled the Festival fans by bringing the Toyota MR2 prepared for Group S, which he was able to show them in its first-ever public appearance. "With his vast knowledge of rallying and, last but not least, his outstanding networking in the worldwide rally scene, Ernst is an absolute asset for us," said organisation manager Otmar Anschütz as he was looking forward to this addition to his team.
